Delhi

A bright, warm Summer's day. Summit, our Delhi (Old Delhi and New Delhi) City Guide of the day came to meet us at our hotel, as arranged at 9.00am with Satbir, our chauffeur. Touring New and Old Delhi by car with such knowledgeable and kind escorts was an interesting - and safe - experience!

The sites we visited:

• Old Delhi - Jama Masjid, the largest and grandest mosque in India
  
  
• A look at the Red Fort from the Jama Masjid Mosque
  
  
• A fantastic rickshaw drive in Old Delhi narrow streets with heavy overhangs of electric cables (!!)
  
  
• The India Gate (All India War Memorial) and Governement buildings
  
  
• The calm and peaceful Memorial of Mahatma Gandhi
  
  
• The exquisitely crafted 5-storey Qutb Minar, in red sandstone decorated with geometric designs and koranic verses
  
  
• Lunch at the 'all-indian' Mishtaan Restaurant - wonderful real Indian food for Indians! (no toutists... but beware to buy your own bottle selaed-top water!)
  
  
• Bahai Temple built in the shape of a blossoming lotus
  
  
• A late afternoon visit to our Guide and Tour operator, Raj, in his New Delhi office. A cup of Masala Chai!
  
  
• Back to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel for a quick wash...
  
  
• Out for a meal on our own in one of Connaught Place's (central Delhi) restaurants - delicious Indian food... and back to our hotel by 'took-took-taxi'!
