Jaipur to Agra

We left Jaipur around 9.00am. The drive to Agra took all day but it is fair to say that it wasn't in the slightest long and boring! We saw many interesting things on route as we crossed numerous small towns and villages. We also visited 2 sites on route:

• Late morning we turned off the main road from Jaipur to Agra. The scenery changed sunddenly: we were in the heart of the Indian countryside. The road became very narrow. There were women working in most fields - hand-cutting hay. In other fields we saw Indian sheperds with large flocks of sheep. At one point we followed behind a herd of small lambs. The herd was accompanied by donkeys fitted with side-bags in which they carried the tiniest lambs unable to walk all the way by themselves! We also crossed several tractors with huge loads - but no other cars!
  There was an extremely rural feel to this remote Indian countryside. Warm and calm, industrious but also very peaceful...
  
  
• We then arrived in a small village, site of an Ancient Palace. The village Doctor doubles up a historic guide for visits of the Ancient Palace. He left his surgery to give us a most interesting tour.
  The construction of this Ancient Palace is most unusual with an open water-reservoir at the very bottom and rows and rows of steps forming a sort of amphitheatre on 3 sides with the Palace standing on the fourth side. A most ingenious way to collect water during the Monsoon season... and make it accessible whatever the water-level while providing seating in a sort of theatre looking onto the front of the Palace during the dry season when the water is receeding.
  Surprisingly, this site is totally unspoilt and remote from all touristic activities. To be honest, I do not know its name or location... but if you are interested, please contact Raj, our guide.
  
  
• We then went back through the countryside and rejoined the road to Agra.
  Just before reaching Agra, we stopped to visit the Fort of Fatehpur Sikri.
